The aim of the Association is to reintegrate Eritrean deaf-mutes into their communities.
The Association has over 5,000 members (40% of whom are women) and many more who are still unaccounted for in the country in need of education and vocational training.
The population of deaf people is estimated to be around 40,000.
ERINAD’s aim is to reintegrate deaf Eritreans into their own communities, with literacy and training workshops in carpentry, tailoring, etc.
PROJECT UPDATE – MARCH 2019
In March 2019, we visited the association to deliver the materials collected thanks also to your support and the precious contribution of Publiacqua, which donated some laptops, and Polimoda, which donated fabrics and tailoring accessories. We also had the opportunity to kick off the new project we will be supporting: doubling the size of the modelling and tailoring school to accommodate more and more students. To our great excitement, we were also able to attend the first graduation ceremony of the first 30 students who completed the training course. All of them have already found jobs and are thus supporting themselves and their families also thanks to your contribution.

ERINAD, l’Associazione Sordomuti nel cuore di Asmara
Grazie all’aiuto di Smile Project, il laboratorio oggi dispone di tessuti, forbici, spilli e molti altri accessori indispensabili per consentire agli allievi di imparare questo utile e appassionante mestiere. Durante la nostra visita abbiamo donato alla sartoria un PC e un tablet, che sono stati installati grazie all’aiuto di alcuni volontari presenti nel nostro gruppo. Abbiamo potuto constatare che gli allievi vengono preparati bene e con cura alla professione: l’anno passato già 30 studenti hanno completato il percorso di formazione e hanno trovato subito lavoro, potendo così sostenere se stessi e le proprie famiglie. Grande soddisfazione anche per la maestra responsabile del laboratorio, che recentemente ha partecipato e vinto un concorso di sartoria.
Prossimo obiettivo di Smile Project per Erinad è fornire forbici da taglio più idonee e più precise e, grazie alla presenza in associazione di un esperto di sartoria, ci siamo già attivati per reperire e far giungere loro gli accessori migliori.
